Dr Sarah Cameron is a political scientist at Griffith University’s School of Government and International Relations and a Chief Investigator on the Australian Election Study. Her research focuses on comparative political behaviour, attitudes towards democracy, and Australian politics. 

Cameron contributes to several leading studies on elections and democracy. She is a Chief Investigator on the Australian Election Study, funded by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project ‘Political Trust and Satisfaction with Democracy in Australia’ and an Investigator on the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems. Previously, she managed the Australian Research Council-funded Electoral Integrity Project, and was a Research Associate with the Comparative Cross-National Electoral Research Project. She has held previous appointments at the University of Sydney and was a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University.

Cameron is the lead author of a series of major reports on Australian elections including, The 2022 Australian Federal Election: Results from the Australian Election Study and Trends in Australian Political Opinion 1987-2022. Other publications include Electoral Integrity in America (Oxford University Press, 2019), and articles in Electoral Studies and European Political Science Review. Her research on comparative and Australian politics has been recognised with awards including the 2022 APSA Political Organisations and Participation Research Group Prize for Best ECR Publication and the 2021 Mayer Journal Prize for the best article published in the Australian Journal of Political Science.

Cameron received her PhD in Political Science from the Australian National University. She holds Master’s degrees from the Australian National University and Ashridge Business School. Previously, Cameron worked in management and consulting roles in the non-profit sector. She was a Commissioner on the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012, the independent body overseeing sustainability at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and was the National Programs Manager of Global Action Plan (UK).
